Albany Earns 1-0 Victory Against Orange Men's Soccer

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Syracuse men’s soccer team had its two-game road winning streak snapped with a 1-0 loss at the University of Albany on Wednesday, Sept. 22. SU is now 2-4-0 on the season, while the Great Danes improved to 5-1-1.
Albany scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute. Peter Squeglia rebounded a missed shot and beat SU goalkeeper Rich Scheer (Livingston, N.J.). Yan Gbolo and Rodrigo Marion were credited with assists on the play.The Great Danes, who entered the game ranked sixth in the New York Region, held SU scoreless for 90 minutes, recording their fifth shutout in seven games this season.
Scheer made two saves in the loss. Albany goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul also made two saves in the shutout. Coundoul has allowed just two goals in 658 minutes so far this season.
The Orange had an opportunity to tie the score in the 87th minute, but a shot by Alejandro Nuno (Oakland, Calif.) went just wide.
SU outshot Albany, 10-8. Each team had four corner kicks.
The loss was the Orange’s first of the season away from home. Syracuse is now 2-1-0 away from the SU Soccer Stadium.
Syracuse gets back into BIG EAST play with a game at West Virginia on Sunday, Sept. 26. Following another road game at Colgate on Sept. 29, the Orange will play its first home game in three weeks against Georgetown on Oct. 3.
