Women’s Soccer Wins, 2-0, at Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Syracuse women’s soccer team scored a 2-0 victory at Albany on Sunday afternoon. The Orange improves to 6-2-1 on the season and the Great Danes are 2-9-0.
SU opened the scoring in the 15th minute on a shot from 25 yards out by junior Brooke DeRosa that went through the goalkeeper’s hands. The goal was DeRosa’s first of her career.
Senior Talia Andrews-Rankin tallied her first career goal in the 42nd minute to give the Orange a 2-0 advantage. Andrews-Rankin stole the ball from a defender and scored from 15 yards out.
Junior Emily Kowalczyk got her first start of the season, recorded one save and earned the fifth shutout of her career.
The Orange out-shot the Great Danes 23-3 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
SU returns to action on Friday, Oct. 1 as the team hosts Pittsburgh at 7 p.m.
