HAMILTON, N.Y. – A goal by Jonathan Cook in the 50th minute of play propelled Colgate to a 1-0 victory against the Syracuse men’s soccer team at Van Doren Field on Wednesday, Sept. 29. The Orange has now lost three straight and stand at 2-6-0, while the Raiders improved to 5-3-0 on the season.
The two teams combined for eight shots, none of which were on goal in the first half. Colgate needed just more than four minutes into the second half, however, to net the game’s only tally. Cook took a pass from Reed Grimes and beat SU keeper Alim Karim. Travis Rains was also credited with an assist on the play.
Colgate outshot SU, 15-6, including a 10-3 advantage in the second half. Karim made three saves in his first start since the season-opener. Josh Cohen earned the shutout for the Raiders with one save.
A physical game throughout, the contest had a combined 34 fouls and six yellow cards.
Syracuse has now lost three consecutive games by a 1-0 score. It is the first time the Orange has been shutout in three straight outings since the end of the 2000 season. The loss ended SU’s three-game winning streak versus Colgate.
Syracuse returns home for a BIG EAST matchup with Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 3. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium. The first 600 fans will receive an autographed team picture.
