Orange Volleyball Defeats Rhode Island, 3-1

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Junior Kristen Conway recorded her first double-double of the season and 23rd of her career as the Syracuse volleyball team won its second-straight match with a 3-1 win against Rhode Island on Friday, Sept. 3. The Orange (2-0) defeated the Rams (0-2), 31-29, 28-30, 30-26, 30-28, on the first day of the Army Open.
Conway had 12 kills and 19 digs, as well as two service aces, one solo block and six block assists. Sophomore Erin McQuilllin set a new career high with 10 block assists, along with one solo block and nine kills. Junior Aila Dommestrup led the team with 44 assists, and senior Morgan Jones led the team in kills with 15 and with a .306 hitting percentage. Freshman libero Joscie Kaup had 20 digs, and junior Kelly Duan recorded 10 kills.
Three Rhode Island student-athletes recorded double-doubles. Rachel Bello recorded 12 kills on 34 attempts and 13 digs for the Rams. Kaleena Miller had 19 kills on 53 attempts and 13 digs, and Beatriz Arana had 14 kills and 17 digs. Lindsay St. John led URI with 50 assists, and Marie Rolfe had a team-high 23 digs.
SU continues action at the Army Open on Saturday, Sept. 4. The Orange takes on Army at 12:00 p.m. followed by Fairleigh Dickinson at 2:00 p.m.
