
McNamara Named Co-BIG EAST Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, RI -- Junior guard Gerry McNamara from Syracuse and senior guard Chris Thomas from Notre Dame were named BIG EAST Conference Co-Players of the Week on Monday, January 10. The award was announced prior to the ESPN Big Monday matchup between the two squads, won by Syracuse, 70-61.
McNamara helped lead Syracuse to a pair of BIG EAST wins last week, averaging 21.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game. He had 19 points and five assists in a 79-65 victory at St. John's and tallied 23 points and four assists when Syracuse defeated Seton Hall, 75-50.
In Monday night's win at Notre Dame, McNamara had a squad-best 22 points and five assists. On the season he is averaging 15.4 points, 5.1 assists, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.6 steals.
McNamara has 244 career three-point baskets, just five shy of the school record set by Preston Shumpert. McNamara ranks 31st in career scoring at SU with 1,263.
The Orange travel to take on Providence on Saturday, January 15, at 1:00 p.m. in the Dunkin Donuts Arena. The game will be televised by CBS and carried live on radio by the Syracuse ISP Sports Network.
