
Women's Swimming Edges West Virginia, 122.5 - 118.5

MORGANTOWN, W.V. -- Freshman Vanessa Duenas (Miami, Fla./Lourdes Academy) won three events to help power the Syracuse University women's swim team to a 122.5 - 118.5 victory against West Virginia in the first BIG EAST dual meet for the Orange since Oct. 30, versus Pittsburgh. The Mountaineer men defeated Syracuse 144-90.
Duenas took first place in the 200 individual medley (2:08.27), the 200 butterfly (2:05.83) and as part of the 400 medley relay team along with junior Vanessa Martinez (Maunabo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame H.S.), sophomore Randi Beaulieu (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park H.S.) and freshman Katie Maaske (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School).
Diver Tory McKenna (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) placed second in both the one and three-meter dives. She scored 215.17 points on the one-meter and 213.38 points on the three-meter board.
Senior Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif./Clayton Valley H.S.) was the standout on the men's side with first-place finishes in both the 200 freestyle (1:43.01) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.20).
The Orange swimming and diving team will be home next Saturday, Jan. 22 against Connecticut at Ted Webster Pool. Diving begins at 9 a.m., while the swimming events begin at 12 p.m.
