
Women's Swimming Signed Three During Early Signing Period

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse University swimming program signed three women's swimmers to National Letters of Intent during the sport's early signing period. Sarah Manning (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius H.S.), Catrina Roth (Aurora, Illinois/Batavia H.S.) and Danielle Stein (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake H.S.) will enter Syracuse as freshmen in the fall of 2005.
Manning was a New York State finalist in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly as a junior at Fayetteville-Manlius High School. She was also named a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Team Scholar-Athlete. Manning is currently the Section III record holder in the 100 backstroke after winning last year's championship with a time of 58.74. She added another Section III championship to her resume last season in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.08.
Roth is an all-state backstroker out of Aurora, Illinois. In addition to earning high school All-America honors, she has also been a member of the Academic All-American team. Roth has won two Illinois High School Association championships, one in the 100 backstroke (58.75) and another in the 200 backstroke (2:05.03).
Stein is a New York State Scholar-Athlete who excells in the breaststroke and individual medley events. She was a New York State finalist in the 100 breastroke and the 200 individual medley last season on her way to earning All-America accolades. She owns the Section II record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.06 and is coming off two Section II championships in both the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley. Named Section II MVP last season, Stein also succeeds in the classroom, earning Academic All-America laurels and Section II Scholar-Athlete recognition.
Next season, the Syracuse women lose two seniors to graduation - Lisa Fong and Elisa James.
