Tennis Team Heads to Virginia

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The SU women’s tennis team will travel to Newport News, Va. to take part in the Hampton Roads Invitational hosted by Old Dominion University this weekend.
SU, who had this past week off, it last played Sept. 30-Oct. 2 when it took part in the Deacon Classic at Wake Forest University. At the Deacon Classic, Carolina Huignard (Don Mills, Ontario) led the way in singles play making it to the semifinals of the Flight C singles draw.
In doubles play, the team of Victoria Vaynberg (Princeton, N.J.) and Catherine Zawadzki (Brooklyn, N.Y.) turned in another impressive performance placing third at Flight A doubles.
The Orange will be competing against 21 other teams this weekend including BIG EAST opponents Georgetown and Pittsburgh.
On the season, SU is led in singles play by Wei-Ming Leong (Ipoh, Malaysia) who has a record of 6-1 including her 100th career victory making her the 24th member of the Syracuse Century Club. Huignard and Katie Bramante (Endwell, N.Y.) have also been impressive in singles play. Huignard is 5-2 on the year, while Bramante is 4-2 after winning her flight at the Yale Invitational Sept. 16-18.
Vaynberg and Zawadzki have been the Orange’s strongest doubles tandem posting a record on 5-1 including a title at the Yale Invitational.
Play begins on Friday with the finals wrapping up Sunday afternoon.
