This Day in Dome History: October 13
10/13/2005 2:38:39 PM | Men's Soccer, Dome 25
The Syracuse men's soccer team played three times on this date in the 25-year history of the Carrier Dome. The Orange had a 1-1-1 record in those three games. Most recently, Syracuse played to a 0-0 tie against Colgate on October 13, 1993.
In that game against the Red Raiders, freshman goalkeeper Jay Nigrini made four saves for the Orange, recording his third shutout in four games. SU had a scoring opportunity late in regulation, but Colgate defenseman Erik Ronning had a defensive save on a shot by Jason Clarke to preserve the tie and force overtime.
In 1984, Syracuse lost to No. 10 Hartwick, 2-0, on this date. Goalie Rick Fatscher recorded a season-high 20 saves which was a single-game school record.
The Orange's lone win on this date came in 1982 when Syracuse defeated St. Bonaventure, 5-0. Goalkeeper Joe Papaleo added another shutout to his resume to get him closer to the single-season record at Syracuse (12).
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
In the first 25 years of the Dome, more than 1,740 events were staged, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome. Fans who attend events in the Dome can re-live the memories with these photos.
