SYRACUSE, N.Y. – SU men’s soccer goalie Robert Cavicchia (North York, Ontario), fresh off BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors, earned two more weekly accolades on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Cavicchia was selected as the ECAC Goalkeeper of the Week and was named to Soccer America Magazine’s National Team of the Week for his performance during the week ending on Oct. 16.
Cavicchia stopped a career-high 11 shots in the Orange’s 2-1 upset victory against #18 Cincinnati on Oct. 15, including making six saves in the second half. For the season, he has 63 saves, five shutouts and a 0.78 goals-against average, which ranks third in the BIG EAST and is the highest GAA of any rookie goalie in the conference.
In SU’s most recent outing, Cavicchia made nine saves against Colgate and he is averaging 10.0 stops in the Orange’s last two matches. He has played all but 37 minutes in net for the Orange this season and has allowed one goal or less in 13 of SU’s 15 matches.
Being selected to the Soccer America National Team of the Week is one of the most prestigious weekly awards bestowed upon a college soccer student-athlete. Soccer America Magazine is one of the leading soccer publications in the nation with a readership of more than 125,000.
Alex Munns of Yale joined Cavicchia in being honored by the ECAC. Munns took home Player of the Week accolades after scoring both of the Bulldogs’ goals in a win against Cornell.
SU’s next match is on the road versus BIG EAST newcomer Louisville on Saturday, Oct. 22. Kickoff is 7:00 p.m.
