Syracuse has a won three of the six athletics contests played on October 2 in the 25-year history of the Carrier Dome. The Orange football squad is 2-2, including wins against Rutgers and Tulane and losses to Boston College and Maryland, while the men's soccer team is 1-1, with a victory against Fairleigh Dickinson in 1988 and an overtime loss to Connecticut in 1994.
In the 41-21 victory against Rutgers, Damien Rhodes and Walter Reyes both rushed for more than 100 yards. marking the first time since 2000 that SU had two backs run for 100 yards in the same game. Rhodes and Reyes also rushed for two touchdowns each. SU placekicker Collin Barber connected on two field goals and fullback Greg Hanoian caught a four-yard touchdown pass from Perry Patterson.
In its 47-17 victory against Tulane in 1999, kicker Nate Trout became SU's all-time scoring leader with his 304th points. In 1993 SU lost to Boston College, 33-29. Marcus Lee had a pair of touchdowns and Marvin Harrison had a 53-yard TD reception. In 1982, the Orange lost to Maryland, 26-3.
Steve Morris tallied both goals in the Orange men's 2-1 soccer victory against Fairleigh Dickinson in 1988. Goalie Chris Whitcomb recorded 13 saves. In SU's 1994 3-1 overtime loss to Connecticut, Robert Irvine scored the lone goal for the Orange.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
In the first 25 years of the Dome, more than 1,740 events were staged, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome. Fans who attend events in the Dome can re-live the memories with these photos.
