Swim Teams Head to Army Invite

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams travel to West Point, N.Y. to take part in the Army Invitational this weekend. The men’s team enters the weekend with a record of 1-0, while the women are 0-1.
The men’s team beat Colgate, 148-88, on Friday Oct. 14 behind two victories from Pat Mugavin (Northport, N.Y.). Mugavin won the 1000-free in a time of 9:58.28 as well as the 500-free in a time of 4:47.28.
In diving action, Patrick White (Poulsbo, Wash.) won the one meter diving with a score of 250.50, while Jeremy Thornton (Manchester, Conn.) won the three meter diving with a score of 222.23.
SU won the first 11 events against the Raiders to pull away with the victory.
The Orange women came up just short against Colgate losing, 121.5-120.5. Lisa Wittich (St. Louis, Mo.) led the team by taking first in three events. She won the 1,000 free in 10:28.32, 500-free in 5:09.63 and the 400-free relay with Melissa Clune (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), Petra Zavadilova (Olomovc, Czech Republic) and Sarah Manning (Syracuse, N.Y.) in a time of 3:39.33.
This weekend’s meet begins on Friday and will run through Saturday.
