
Women's Rowing Takes Varsity Eight To Head of the Charles

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Oct. 22, 2005 - The women's rowing varsity eight will compete at the 41st Head of the Charles in Boston, Mass. on Sunday, Oct. 23. At the world's largest two-day rowing event last year, SU finished 13th out of 42 teams.
The crew on the varsity eight boat will consst of the same rowers that competed at the Stonehurst Invitational two weeks ago, where the Orange finished sixth overall.
There are a few switches in the seat order of the boat for Sunday. Junior Karlyn Downing will move from the three seat to the fifth seat. Junior Ruth Frantz will move from the fourth seat to the sixth. Junior Rachel Gibian will move from seat two to three, and junior Casey Irving will switch from the sixth seat to the fourth. Senior Cat Henny will be the final move, changing from the fifth seat to the seventh.
Junior Erin Cunningham will be the coxswain at the Head of the Charles. Senior Ineke DeSimone will remain in the second seat, junior Jaime Doerr will fill the eighth seat, and freshman Katie Lynch will keep her spot in the first seat.
The women's collegiate eight event is slated to begin at 12:55 p.m., with the championship eights ready to begin at 3:57 p.m.
The Head of the Charles brings in more than 7,000 athletes from around the world to compete in 24 different events over two days. The event was moved to two days in 1997, and attracts over 300,000 spectators during the course of the weekend.
