SU Loses in Overtime

MILWUAKEE, WISC.—The Syracuse University women’s soccer team lost to Marquette, 2-1, in overtime Friday night. Sarah Uyuneshi scored the game-winning goal in the 96th minute for Marquette.
Syracuse took the lead in the 36th minute when Samantha Hawn (Spencerport, N.Y.) found Molly McManus (Binghamton, N.Y.), The Orange held a 1-0 lead into the half.
Marquette came out firing in the second half forcing SU goalkeeper Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio) to make a pair of stellar saves. The Golden Eagles tied the game in the 70th minute when Lauren Weber found the back of the net.
In overtime, Marquette’s Katie Kelly crossed a pass into the box where Uyeneshi collected the pass and ended the contest scoring the game-winner.
Kowalczyk had seven saves in the game, while her counterpart Laura Boyer had four.
Marquette improves to 15-2-1, 6-2 in the BIG EAST with the win, while SU drops to 3-11-4, 2-5-3 in the BIG EAST.
SU will close out its regular season on Sunday when it takes on South Florida at 11 a.m. at Marquette. The game was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. in Tampa Fl., however the threat of Hurricane Wilma forced the game to be played at a neutral site.
