This Day in Dome History: October 25
10/25/2005 12:58:41 PM | Football, Dome 25
The Syracuse football team has played just once in the Carrier Dome on October 25 in the last 25 years. The men's soccer squad has played twice on this date in the Dome, recording one tie and one loss. In addition, the SU Crop Walk took place in the Dome on this date in 1992 to raise awareness of the hunger problem in Central New York.
The football Orange took on Rutgers on this date in 1980, the year the Dome opened. After missing three weeks, running back Joe Morris returned and rushed for 157 yards on 31 carries to lead SU to a 17-9 victory against Rutgers. Morris scored a touchdown and became the all-time leading rusher in Syracuse history as he passed Larry Csonka with 3,022 yards rushing. Morris also recorded his 15th career 100-yard rushing game, setting a new school record.
The SU men's soccer team lost to Oneonta, 2-1, on this date in 1988. Oneonta took an early lead, but Kevin Johnston's goal at the 67:10 mark tied the score. The score remained that way until Oneonta found the net with less than six minutes remaining in regulation for the one-goal victory.
In 1985, Syracuse and Long Island University played to a 1-1 tie.
