Syracuse University athletics team are a perfect 3-0 in games played in the Carrier Dome on October 26. The football squad has two wins, while the men's soccer team won its only contest played in the building on this date. In addition, the Dome has hosted an NBA preseason exhibition on this date in 1991.
The defense shined in the football Orange's 45-14 victory against Rutgers on this date in 2002. Syracuse forced five turnovers and allowed only 16 yards rushing. SU gave up just 193 yards of total offense and had eight sacks, including three by Rich Scanlon. Damien Rhodes scored three touchdowns, including a three-yard blocked punt return, and Walter Reyes finished with 115 yards rushing, his third 100-yard effort of the season.
In 1985, the Orange defeated Temple, 29-14. Redshirt freshman Markus Paul tied a school record with three interceptions and was named ECAC Rookie of the Week. Paul wasn't the only member of the Orange honored for his performance against the Owls. Junior Scott Schwedes was involved in all of SU's touchdowns and was named ECAC Player of the Week. He caught a 31-yard pass from Don McPherson, threw a 36-yard pass to Robert Drummond and returned a punt 54 yards for a touchdown. His punt return four a touchdown was his second of the season, making him the first SU player to return more than one punt for a score in a season since Floyd Little in 1965. Co-captains Rudy Reed and Tim Green also turned in stellar performances. Reed finished with 15 tackles, while Green recorded 13 tackles and two sacks.
In its only game in the Dome on this date, the SU men's soccer team shut out Oneonta, 6-0 in 1994. Jamie Shannon had three goals and Marc Ansani added three assists in the Orange's final home game of the season.
In 1991, the Dome hosted an NBA exhibition game between the New Jersey Nets and Philadelphia 76ers.
