
Orange Shutout in Women's Soccer

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The SU women’s soccer team saw its season come to an end Thursday night, losing to Georgetown, 1-0, in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament. The Hoyas scored late in the first half to earn the win.
The Orange out shot the Hoyas, 4-3, in the first half of play, however the Hoyas’ Elaina Filauro made hers count as she scored the games only goal in the 38th minute. Filauro gained control of the ball after an SU defender let the ball slip away after attempting to clear it out. Filauro found herself open five yards out and fired a shot by the keeper.
Georgeotwn out shot the Orange, 5-3, in the second half with Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio) making three saves to keep the game within reach for the Orange.
Kowalczyk finished the game with four saves, while Samantha Hawn (Spencerport, N.Y.) led the team with three shots.
Georgetown moves on to face Notre Dame on Sunday in the quarterfinals. SU finishes the season 4-12-4.
