
Field Hockey Hosts Dartmouth on Oct. 30 at 1:30 p.m.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse field hockey team hosts Ivy League member Dartmouth in its final game of the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 1:30 p.m. The Orange will honor its two senior captains Jess Dahle and Paige Sullivan as they play their final contest at Coyne Field on Senior Day.
SU is coming off a 1-0 victory against Cornell Wednesday night. Dartmouth was 7-7 heading into its Oct. 29th contest with Harvard.
The 10-8 Orange will participate in the 2005 BIG EAST Conference Tournament on Friday, Nov. 4, at Rutgers University's Stadium Complex. The Orange earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will take on No. 1 Villanova at 5 p.m. SU defeated the Wildcats, 4-3, on Oct. 8. The other semifinal pits No. 2 Connecticut against No. 3 Louisville at 7 p.m. The winners of the semifinal matchups will play at noon on Sunday, Nov. 6. The championship game will be nationally televised by ESPNU and aired at 5 p.m. the same day. The BIG EAST Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Syracuse last won the BIG EAST Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2001. Overall, the Orange has won three league titles and appeared in three NCAA tournaments (1993, 1995, 2001). This will be the team's 16th appearance in the 17-year history of the BIG EAST Tournament.
SU has won six of its last eight games.
Whitney Waugh leads Dartmouth in scoring with 14 points (five goals, four assists). Lizzie Bildner also has five goals on the season. Lauren Balukjian is the starting goalkeeper. She owns a .770 save percentage and a 1.55 goals against average.
SERIES WITH DARTMOUTH
This will be the seventh meeting between Syracuse and Dartmouth in field hockey. The Orange control the all-time series, 4-2. The Big Green has won the last two meetings, including last season's 3-1 decision. In 2003, Dartmouth posted a 3-2 victory in Hanover. The last time Syracuse was triumphant in the series was 2002 (2-0 win).
SULLIVAN SCORES GAME-WINNER VS. CORNELL
Senior forward Paige Sullivan recorded her second two-goal game of the season when SU defeated Quinnipiac. She scored the game-winning goal against Cornell Wednesday night. Sullivan has rattled off four goals in SU's last four games. She leads the team with a career-high 12 goals and 26 points this season. During her four-year career, Sullivan has scored 21 goals.
WAGNER RETURNS TO COYNE ON DARTMOUTH SIDELINE
Former Syracuse University goalkeeper Betsy Wagner returns to Coyne Field as an assistant coach for the Big Green. She capped off her playing career last season with an impressive senior year in which she earned second-team All-America honors and the 2004 BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year award.
