
Field Hockey Victorious Against Colgate, 5-1

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Five different Syracuse players scored as the Orange field hockey team defeated local rival Colgate, 5-1, at Tyler's Field. The win improved SU's season record to 6-6. Colgate is 5-7.
The Orange tallied three goals in the first half. Junior forward Ashley Fry (Douglassville, Pa./Oley Valley) put in a second touch off a penalty corner just 13:25 into the contest. It was her seventh goal of the season. Junior back Michelle Sola (Blandon, Pa./Oley Valley) assisted.
Senior midfielder/back Jess Dahle (Farmington, Conn./Farmington) recorded her first goal of the season at the 23:10 mark. It was the second goal of her career.
Less than six minutes later, Colgate got on the scoreboard. Natali Plesniarski registered an unassisted goal when she punched in Laura Flisnik's rebound.
Freshman Brittany Shannon (Ronks, Pa./Conestoga) gave Syracuse a 3-1 lead with an unassisted score with 1:21 remaining in the half. It marked Shannon's first collegiate goal.
The second stanza saw the Orange post two more goals. Team scoring leader Paige Sullivan (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) sent a shot from the top of the circle into the back of the cage at the 45:05 mark. The goal was unassisted. It was Sullivan's eighth goal of the season, equalling her goal total for the entire 2004 season. She already has a career-high 18 points (eight goals, two assists) this season.
Sola recorded her second goal in as many games, firing a winning shot off a penalty corner with 19:11 remaining in the contest. The goal was assisted by Dahle and junior forward Meg Ryan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield).
Freshman Heather Hess (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) started the game's first 55:49 in goal. She had three saves before giving way to sophomore Marie O'Brien (Burlington, Ontario/Assumption).
In goal for Colgate was Jacque DeMarco (five saves in 60 minutes) and Carolyn Day who played the final 10:21.
Next up for Syracuse is a BIG EAST Conference matchup with first-place Villanova (2-0). The Orange is 1-1 in league play. It will host the Wildcats on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 5 p.m. at Coyne Field.
