The Syracuse football and men's soccer teams have each played once in the Carrier Dome on this date. Both times Pittsburgh was the opponent. The football Orange defeated the Panthers, 31-7, on October 8, 1994. In 1995, the SU men's soccer team lost to Pittsburgh, 2-1.
In the football squad's win against Pitt, Syracuse's offense dominated the game, recording 618 yards of total offense, the third-highest single-game total in school history. It marked the second consecutive week the Orange had two players rush for more than 100 yards. Quarterback Kevin Mason rushed for a career-best 146 yards, while running back Kirby DarDar also eclipsed the 100-yard rushing mark with a personal-best 136 yards. Mason completed 12-of-23 passing attempts for 204 yards and a touchdown and earned the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week award. The Syracuse defense held its opponent to less than 100 yards rushing for the second straight week.
Goalkeeper Josh McGibbon recorded six saves on 15 shots in the SU men's soccer team's loss to Pittsburgh. The Panthers took an early lead with a goal four minutes into the game, but Syracuse tied the score on Matt Yakubisin's goal at the 54:11 mark. J.L. Gorsin scored the game-winner for Pitt with 6:57 remaining in regulation.
