The Syracuse football squad has played three times in the Carrier Dome on this date, winning all three of those contests. The men’s basketball team held an intra-squad scrimmage in the building prior to the 1981-82 season.
Syracuse has faced Boston College on this date twice, most recently in 1991. After the Eagles took a 10-0 lead, the Orange scored 24 unanswered points on its way to a 38-16 victory. Receiver Antonio Johnson scored a pair of touchdowns, one on a 55-yard reception and another on a 63-yard fumble return, helping SU to its fifth straight win against Boston College.
In 1985, Scott Schwedes set a school record for most receiving yards in a game with 249 in Syracuse’s 41-21 win against Boston College. Quarterback Don McPherson was 12-for-18 passing for 291 yards.
Five different players scored for the Orange in a 42-17 victory against the Army on this date in 1996. Quarterback Donovan McNabb was 16-of-19 passing for 285 yards.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
