SU Sets Four School Records at Nike Cup

SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed in the Nike Cup at the University of North Carolina this past weekend with both the men and women finishing in fifth place. SU set four school records on the weekend and turned in several NCAA “B” standard qualifying times.
Luk Boral (Poznan, Poland) set the Syracuse record in the 100-breastroke finishing in a time of 55.36 to beat the previous top time of 55.46. Vanessa Duenas (Miami, Fla.) set the school record in the 400-individual medley in a time of 4:22.85. The previous record was 4:23.91.
In relay action, SU’s 200-freestyle relay team consisting of Melissa Clune (Bainbridge, Island, Wash.), Petra Zavadilova (Olomouc, Czech Republic), Sarah Manning (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Randi Beaulieu (Mississauga, Ontario, Canada ) broke the school record finishing in 1:35.74 to beat out the previous time of 1:36.12. The 200-medley relay team of Catrina Roth (Aurora, Ill.), Katie Maaske (Jacksonville, Fla.), Zavadilova and Beaulieu posted a time of 1:45.47 to oust the previous mark of 1:46.61.
Boral and Duenas each set themselves up to qualify for a pair of events at the NCAA Championships in March. Boral met the NCAA “B” standard in the 100 and 200-breastroke in times of 55.36 and 1:58.71, respectively. Duenas met the “B” standard in the 200 and 400-individual medley posting times of 2:04.23 and 4:22.85.
SU will next be in action on December 2-4 when it competes in the Yale Nutmeg Invitational.
