SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse women’s lacrosse head coach Lisa Miller announced the signing of five recruits for the 2006-07 season. The list includes a First Team All-American and a pair of Academic All-Americans.
Halley Quillinan, a native of Glenmont, N.Y., was named a high school First Team All-American last season as a junior attacker at Bethlehem High School. She has compiled 136 goals and 40 assists in two years. Bethlehem advanced to the state semifinals in 2004 and to the state final last season. Qullinan is a two-time Suburban Council All-Star, and was recently named one of America’s top 19 “Young Guns” by Inside Lacrosse Magazine. Quillinan plays for the Albany Elite lacrosse club.
Deanne Abell has earned first team all-league honors the past two seasons as the starting goalkeeper for G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton, N.Y. Last season, she made 259 saves and had a save percentage of 60.4 percent. For her career, she has compiled 744 saves while starting every game in her three seasons.
Abell propelled the Raiders to the Section III Class B semifinals last season, where they lost to Carthage in overtime. Abell is a member of the Central New York Elite lacrosse club.
Jacquelyn DePetris, who hails from Radnor, Pa., is a two-sport star at Archbishop Carroll. Last season, she was named an Academic All-American in lacrosse. She also competed at the 2005 USA Field Hockey National Hockey Festival in Florida, where her under-19 team, the Newton Square Cougars, placed third in the U19P division.
Christina Dove was also named a 2005 high school Academic All-American. Dove is from Bel Air, Md. and is a member of the Northeast Maryland Select lacrosse club. She is a three-sport star at Bel Air, playing basketball and soccer as well.
Breanna Stiff, a native of Hampstead, Md., plays for the club Rome Lacrosse. She is a midfielder/defender out of North Carroll High School who Miller describes as a great all-around athlete that drives a team, and that she goes after ground balls harder than anyone she has seen. Stiff was a First Team All-County and All-Conference selection in her junior year, while being named Honorable Mention in her freshman and sophomore seasons.
The squad opens its 2006 campaign at the Princeton Tournament on Feb. 18.
