Cross Country/Track & Field Announces Early Signees

SYRACUSE, N.Y., Dec. 19, 2005 – Head Coach Chris Fox and the Syracuse University cross country and track & field program announced its early signees to National Letters of Intent. The class comprises of outstanding distance talent that is expected to make an immediate impact in the 2006-07 season.
Curtis Bixler, a native of Mechanicsburg, Pa., was the 2005 state champion AAA 3200m and the runner-up in the indoor 3000m. He also finished 11th in the Penn Relays in the 3000m and sixth at the PIAA cross country race.
Bixler has garnered six All State honors in Pennsylvania, including two selections to the cross country team in 2004 and 2005, the indoor mile, the 3000m in 2004 and 2005, and the outdoor 3200m in 2005.
Bixler’s personal bests include 4:20.25 in the 1600m, 4:22.43 in the indoor mile, 8:42.48 in the indoor 3000m, and 9:14.80 in the 3200m.
Jay Koloseus, who hails from Guilford, Conn., is a 2005 Foot Locker National Finalist (20th). He is the Connecticut cross country open state champion and the New England cross country runner-up. He won both the indoor and outdoor state open championship in the 3200m.
Koloseus is a three-time All-State selection in track and cross country and has won eight individual state championships. His personal bests include 9:18.80 in the indoor 3200m, and 9:15.15 in the outdoor 3200m.
Brad Miller, from Manheim, Pa., is a three-time Pennsylvania state medalist. He was a First Team All-State selection in 2004 and a Second Team honoree in 2005. In the last two years, he has been the District III runner-up in the 1600m. He was also a medalist in the 2005 outdoor state games.
Miller’s personal bests include 1:55.7 in the 800m and 4:17.76 in the 1600m.
Jeff Scull is coming from Colorado State where he competed in the 2004 NCAA Cross Country Championships. He recently finished 13th in the Canadian Senior Cross Country Championships.
Scull, a native of Jordan Station, Ontatio, has personal bests of 3:54.39 in the 1500m and 8:29.84 in the 3000m.
Stefanie Slekis, from Montclair, Va., has compiled 10 All-State selections in cross country and indoor and outdoor track (1600m, 4x800m, 3200m). She earned All-America honors in the distance medley relay (120mm leg) at the Nike Indoor Nationals in 2004. She has been a Northwest Region champion four times, once each in cross country, the indoor 1600m, indoor 4x800m, and the outdoor 1600m.
Slekis was the state runner-up in the outdoor 1600m in 2004, and took third in the 3200m. She owns personal bests of 11:02.57 in the 3200m, 4:59.83 in the 1600m, 4:40.73 in the 1500m, and 2:18.80 in the 800m.
