EAST MEADOW, N.Y. -- Senior Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif.), junior Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.), sophomores Wes Matson (Wichita, Kansas) and Luk Boral (Poznan, Poland) captured second place in the men's 800 freestyle relay on the first night of the 2005 BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championship at the Nassau County Aquatics Center. The foursome set a new school record in a closely-contested race against Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights won the men's 800 freestyle relay in a time of 6:34.35, while the Orange touched second in a time of 6:34.79. Both times were NCAA "B" cuts. The Syracuse four broke the 1996 school record of 6:35.66 held by Miro Vucetic, Matt Niemi, Keith Fraas and Secor.
Preliminary races continue on Thursday morning, Feb. 17, at 10:30 a.m.
