VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Freshman diver Tory McKenna (Westford, Mass.) broke the Syracuse University school record in the women's one-meter dive in a dual meet at Villanova on Feb. 5. McKenna won the event against the Wildcats with a score of 288.37 points, breaking Samantha Linke's 1997 mark of 277.80 by nearly 11 points. McKenna's score will also go down as a new Villanova Swim Center pool record, as she eclipsed that standard by .375 points.
Another note from the Villanova meet worth mentioning is that newcomer Patrick White (Poulsbo, Wash.) actually won the men's one-meter competition with his score of 254.55 points. Sophomore Jeremy Thornton (Manchester, Conn.) was second with 246.15 points.
McKenna has already qualified for the 2005 NCAA Zone "A" Diving meet which will be held the second week of March in Annapolis, Md.
The SU swimming and diving team will be at the BIG EAST Conference Championship Feb. 16-19. It is being held at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Uniondale, N.Y. (Long Island).
