SU Tennis Loses to Boston College, 6-1

CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. – The Syracuse women’s tennis team (11-7, 5-1 BIG EAST) played its first match outside since its spring break trip, but despite the beautiful conditions, the Orange lost its BIG EAST regular-season conference showdown with Boston College, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Flynn Recreation Complex.

Sophomore Ashley Lipton won the Orange’s only singles match, 7-5, 6-3, against Morgan Landes at the No. 3 position.

Freshman Victoria Vaynberg lost a close match, 7-5, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles position to Szilvia Szegedi. Freshman Jessica Juricek and sophomore Katie Bramante each played three-set matches. Juricek, playing at the No. 4 position, won the first set, 6-1, and then lost the next two sets to Lindsey Nash, 1-6, 0-6. After losing the first set in a tie-breaker, 6-7 (3), to Gia Nafarrete, Bramante won the second set, 6-4, forcing the third set. With the match already decided, Bramante played a tiebreaker at the No. 5 singles position, were she lost, 9-11.

Syracuse won at the top doubles spot as Vaynberg and freshman Catherine Zawadzki defeated Nida Waseem and Nafarrete, 8-3, but the Eagles won at the No. 2 and 3 positions to win the doubles point.

The Orange stays in the Boston area as Syracuse takes on Boston University in the final match of the regular season on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
