SU Concludes Regular Season With Win Against Boston

BOSTON, MASS. -- The Syracuse women's tennis team won its final regular-season match on Sunday, April 17, as the Orange defeated Boston University, 5-2. The Orange finished the season with a 12-7 overall record and 5-1 in the BIG EAST. SU's 12 wins this season ties the most wins since the 1994-95 season when the Orange had a 12-10 record.
All of SU's five points in the match came from singles victories. Freshman Victoria Vaynberg won her 15th match of the spring as she defeated Laura Ahmes, 6-2, 6-0, at the top spot. Sophomore Ashley Lipton won her fifth-straight singles match when she defeated Katie Draganova on the No. 3 position, 7-5, 6-2. Sophomore Katie Bramante defeated Monica Shepherd, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 5 position. Freshmen Jessica Juricek and Pearly Leung both won their matches in the third set. Juricek, playing at the No. 4 spot, defeated Aimee Charest, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Leung defeated Cheri Lapane, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, at the No. 6 position.
SU's top doubles team of Vaynberg and freshman Catherine Zawadzki won their match on Sunday, when the duo defeated Ahmes and Lapane, 8-3.
The Orange begins play at the BIG EAST Championships on Thursday, April 21. The championships are being held in Tampa, Fla. at the University of South Florida.
