OTTAWA, Ontario - Syracuse freshman defender Brad Peetoom is one of 20 players selected to participate with the Canadian U-20 National Team at a training camp in Frankfurt, Germany. The squad is preparing for the FIFA World Youth Championship that will take place in The Netherlands this summer.
Peetoom was a member of the squad that qualified for the world championship. Peetoom played in one of the Canadians' three games, earning the start in a 1-0 shutout of Jamaica. Canada also defeated Mexico, 2-1, and Honduras, 1-0. The Canadian team will begin play at the world championship on June 12 against Syria. The squad will also face Columbia on June 15 and Italy on June 18.
While in Germany, the team will face China on April 23, a reserve team from Bundesliga club Mainz on April 26, and China again on April 28.
Peetoom finished his rookie season as SU’s leading scorer with four goals despite playing defense. He was one of three players on the team, all freshmen, to start all 17 games for the Orange.
