Four SU Players Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Four Syracuse University women’s lacrosse student-athletes earned All-BIG EAST honors, the league announced on Tuesday, May 10.
Seniors Caitlyn Dragon and Monica Joines were unanimous first-team All-BIG EAST selections, while junior Meghan O’Connell and sophomore Jill DePetris received second-team All-BIG EAST recognition.
Dragon was named all-BIG EAST for the first time in her career. Dragon leads the team in scoring with 52 points, including 39 goals and 13 assists. Dragon ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in scoring. She earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors once this season, March 21, with her career-high six points, including four goals and two assists, performance against both Harvard and Massachusetts. Dragon ranks 10th all-time on Syracuse’s career points ledger (59).
Joines received first-team honors for the third year in a row. She is second on the squad in points (51) and leads the Orange with 43 goals and added eight assists. Joines capped the regular-season by tying her career-high with eight points off four goals and four assists against Colgate. She scored at least three goals in 10-of-16 games. Joines earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors twice during the season, April 18 and May 9. Joines ranks second on the SU all-time goals list (129), third in points (155) and sixth in assists (26).
O’Connell was picked to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the first time she has earned all league honors. O’Connell is a two-time BIG EAST Player of the Week this season, earning defensive accolades on April 4 followed by offensive honors on April 11. She is fourth on the team in points (32), while her 30 goals rank her third on the squad. She owns the best shooting percentage on the squad, scoring on 30-of-55 shots (.545). She has 13 caused turnovers and ranks second on the team with 23 draw controls.
DePetris rounded out SU’s all-conference selections. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the first time. DePetris started all 16 games for the Orange, helping to setup the Syracuse offense. DePetris ranks fifth on the team in goals (16), fourth on the squad in assists (7) and sixth in points (23). She leads the team in ground balls (34) and is third in draw controls (22). DePetris ranks 10th on SU’s career assists list with 20 assists in her two season.
The 12th-ranked Orange completed the regular season with a 12-4 record and finished second in the BIG EAST with a 5-1 record. Syracuse received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 5 Dartmouth on Thursday, May 12 in Hanover, N.H. at 4:00 p.m.
