Kunttu Named 2005 Collegiate Sports Video Coordinator of the Year

SU Athletics Department Video Coordinator Erik Kunttu is the 2004-05 Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year, as named by the Collegiate Sports Video Association. The award, named in memory of the late Texas A&M Video Coordinator Bob Matey, was presented at the annual Collegiate Sports Video Association’s national convention last week.
Kunttu, who is in his 11th year directing the video operation for SU Athletics, was selected from 13 finalists who were named as Conference Video Coordinators of the Year by their peers. The BIG EAST Video Coordinator of the Year honor is the fifth for Kunttu. He also earned the honor in 1999, 2000, 2002 and 2003.
A native of Orchard Park, NY, Kunttu coordinates the video operation for the Orange football, basketball and lacrosse teams, in addition to special project assignments. Prior to his appointment at Syracuse, Kunttu was the assistant video director for the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills for four years.
A 1992 graduate of Canisius College with a degree in communications, Kunttu lettered three years in football as a linebacker and was Special Teams Player of the Year in 1990.
Kunttu resides in Syracuse with wife, Kristen, and their three children, Kaija, Mason and Davin.
