SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The field hockey team's home field, J.S. Coyne Field, will undergo a face-lift this summer, replacing the Astroturf with Astro 12, a brand-new artificial surface. The installation of Astro 12 on Coyne Field is scheduled to begin on July 4, with completion targeted for August 1. The renovation is part of a facilities initiative that will also see the Carrier Dome turf being replaced by FieldTurf, along with three other outdoor practice fields at SU's Lampe Athletics Complex.
The Orange field hockey team will play its first game on the new Astro 12 at Coyne Field on September 9 against Kent.
"Adding Astro 12 to Coyne Field and FieldTurf to the Dome and our practice fields is another step in our building a top national athletics program," Syracuse Director of Athletics Dr. Daryl Gross said. "This will help us significantly in competition and recruiting top student-athletes in many of our sports. It will also give us more flexibility in our practice schedules. Our current student-athletes will benefit from these new fields immediately as the fields will be ready for the upcoming Fall. This is a wonderful day for SU athletics as we continue our 'SU Athletics Tomorrow' campaign to have the most competitive facilities in the country."
