SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Redshirt freshman Pete Rowley found the back of the net in the 87th minute to break a 1-1 tie and give the SU men’s soccer team a 2-1 win against Adelphi this afternoon. Sophomore Isaac Collings scored his first goal of the season in the win.
Freshman Spencer Schomaker found an open Rowley in front of the net, and Rowley slipped the match-winner past the goalie for the win. In the 75th minute, Collings found himself with the ball after senior Mike McCallion and sophomore Justin Van Houten both had touches, and he turned and blasted a shot from 30 yards out right inside the top-left corner of the goal.
The Panthers wasted no time responding, as Stephan Fregosi lifted a shot over SU goalkeeper Rich Scheer for the equalizer six minutes later. Rob Philippou was credited with the assist as he found Fregosi in the box.
Six minutes after the Adelphi goal, Rowley pushed his shot in the net for the win.
The goal allowed was the first this season by the Orange. The scoreless span totaled 363:23 in four matches. The four wins to begin a season is the first time SU has done that since 1986.
Syracuse opens its BIG EAST schedule on Friday, Sept. 16, when it hosts Marquette in the SU Soccer Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
