SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Orange takes on #25/20 Virginia this afternoon at the Carrier Dome. It is the first time the Cavaliers have traveled to Syracse in 28 years. Last season, UVA beat SU 31-10 in Charlottesville. The ninth-ranked Orange defense will try to stop UVA quarterback Marques Hagans, who threw for a career-high 252 yards in its season-opening win against Western Michigan. Kickoff is set for noon on ESPN2.
Syracuse will be sporting blue tops with white pants, the first time SU has donned these uniforms at home since 1980, the first season in the Carrier Dome.
Allstate Insurance Company will be a part of today's game in order to help with the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Allstate will donate $1,000 to the relief effort for every field goal that SU makes. In addition, Allstate will donate $300 for a field goal, and $100 for an extra point to the school's general scholarship fund.
The Syracuse University Quad is once again the place to be for fans of all ages prior to each home football game this fall. Activities in the Excellus BlueCross BlueShield Football Fun Zone begin three hours prior to kickoff at 9:00 a.m.
The day’s event will once again be highlighted by the Football “Team March” that will occur at 9:30 a.m. Fans are encouraged to join the band and spirit squads in lining the pathway from College Place to the Carrier Dome to welcome Head Coach Greg Robinson and the 2005 Syracuse Orange as they head to the “Loud House.”
The “Pride of the Orange” SU Marching Band will once again hold a pregame concert on the steps of Hendricks Chapel. SU’s cheerleaders and dance team will also perform on the Quad prior to the game.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Carrier Dome, the first 500 fans visiting the Fun Zone can have a slice of the commemorative cake. In addition, more than 200 Syracuse University student-athletes will once again be participating in the annual Dollar-Day program, benefiting the United Way of Central New York.
Fans can also listen to the pregame broadcast on the Syracuse ISP Radio Network as “Voice of the Orange” Matt Park and Coach Dick MacPherson preview the day’s match-up. Fans can also enjoy inflatable games, product sampling and give-a-ways from Syracuse University corporate sponsors. Food and drink, including Dinosaur Barbeque, will also be available.
Parking and shuttle services to the Quad/College Place will be available from Skytop and Manley Field House beginnings three hours prior to kick-off at 9:00 a.m.
