In the 25 year history of the Carrier Dome, just one event has taken place on September 2 -- an SU football game against the University of Buffalo in 2000. The Orange beat the Bulls, 63-7. Running back Dee Brown scored two touchdowns and rushed for a career-high 157 yards to lead the Orange to the win in the season opener for both teams.
Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House. More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980, when the Orange football team beat Miami (OH), 36-24, in front of 50,564 fans, which still remains the largest crowd for a football game in the Dome.
There have been more than 1,740 events since opening day, including collegiate, professional and high school athletics events, University commencement, concerts, a circus, and community events. These activities are chronicled in the more than 100 photographs that are currently in the concourse of the Dome. Fans who attend events in the Dome can re-live the memories with this photo history walking tour.
During the week of September 12, special events will take place leading up to the celebration of the Dome’s 25th birthday on September 17 as the football Orange host Virginia.
