SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse women’s soccer team lost an evenly played game versus Harvard, 1-0, Monday afternoon. Harvard scored with less than two-minutes remaining in the first half when Becky Smith sent a cross pass to the left side of the Crimson goal where Megan Wyatt was there to head the ball back to the upper right corner of the goal to score what would prove to be the game winner.
Harvard out shot Syracuse, 8-4, while the Orange had an edge in corner kicks, 7-2. Amanda Arcuri (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown), Jill Conaboy (Downingtown, Pa./Dowingtown West) and Jen Taormina (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) each had a shot on goal for the Orange.
Emily Kowalczyk (Dayton, Ohio/Centerville) has three saves on the day allowing just one goal.
SU head coach Pat Farmer said he sees improvement in the level of play of his team but still is looking for an offensive threat to step forward.
“I thought we played a far better game today than against Binghamton,” he said. “I just don’t feel that we are playing with quite enough speed yet. We need to be less hesitant and make that first move quicker.”
Syracuse drops to 1-3-0 on the season, while Harvard improves to 2-0-0. SU will next be in action when it travels to New Mexico to play a pair of games over the weekend starting on Friday against New Mexico at 7 p.m.
