SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The Syracuse men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams came away with a pair of victories against Seton Hall on Saturday with the men overwhelming the Pirates, 142-84, while the women earned a 137-101 victory. The men are now 2-3 (1-3 BIG EAST) and the women improve to 1-4 (1-3 BIG EAST). Pat Mugavin (Northport, N.Y.) and Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.) each won two meets on the day for the men, while Vanessa Duenas (Miami, Fla.), Melissa Clune (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Lisa Wittich (St. Louis, Mo.) each won a pair of races.

Mugavin swam to first place finishes in the 1000-freestyle (9:50.39) and the 500-free (4:43.88). Persico was the top finisher in the 200-individual medley (1:57.25) and the 200-backstroke (1:53.90).
Luk Boral (Poznan, Poland) came in first in the 200-freestyle (1:45.10), while Gustavo Araujo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Ryan Caponera (Latham, N.Y.) registered first place finishes in the 200-butterfly and 100-free, respectively.
In diving action, Patrick White (Poulsbo, Wash.) finished first on the one-meter board with a score of 166.50.
Duenas led the women’s squad, finishing first in the 200-IM (2:07.48) and the 200-butterfly (2:04.64), while Wittich captured freestyle titles in the 1000 (10:26.75) and 500 (5:08.37). Clune claimed titles in the 50-free (25.03) and the 100-free (54.10).
Other first place finishers for the Orange were Catrina Roth (Aurora, Ill.) who won the 200-back (2:06.88), while Sarah Manning (Syracuse, N.Y.) won the 200-free.
Tory McKenna (Westford, Mass.) placed first on the one-meter board with a score of 222.30.
The Orange next be in action on Saturday, Feb. 4, as it hosts Villanova in its final dual meet of the season.
