SYRACUSE, N.Y.- For the fourth consecutive year the Syracuse swimming and diving teams have made the trip to Puerto Rico for their winter training trip. On Tuesday, the Orange will take part in its first competition of 2006 as it competes in the Puerto Rico Invitational at the Encantada Sports Center.
SU is coming off a strong showing at the Yale Nutmeg Invitational, December 3-4. At that meet, the Orange combined to take home 11 first place finishes. Rob Persico (Fulton, Md.) highlighted the men’s competition by winning three races, while Vanessa Duenas (Miami, Fla.) matched that feat winning three races on the women’s side.
Luke Boral (Poznan, Poland) will be looking to continue his already impressive season as he ranks ninth nationally in the 200-breastroke and 20th in the 100-breaststroke. Last year at the Puerto Rico Invitational, Boral’s top finish came in the 200-freestyle where he came in second.
Duenas will be looking to add to her team-best 10 first place finishes this season. She owns three top SU times this season in the 200-butterfly, 200-individual medley and 400-individual medley.
The SU men’s squad is currently 1-1 (0-1 BIG EAST) on the year, while the women are 0-2 (0-1 BIG EAST).
