The football Orange return to the Carrier Dome this Saturday (Oct. 21) to host #7/6 Louisville. The game will kickoff at 12:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Regional Television. Orange fans can listen to the Syracuse ISP Sports Network broadcast on Orange All Access (click here) and the radio network. After the game, fans can watch the Orange All Access post-game show. Tickets are available at the Carrier Dome Box Office (1-888-DOMETIX) or online (click here).
Syracuse has a 3-2 advantage in the series against Louisville, which began in 1985. The Orange beat the Cardinals 48-0 in the first meeting. In 1989, Syracuse beat Louisville, 24-13, in the Coca-Cola Bowl in Tokyo Japan. The Orange won its third straight game against the Cardinals, 15-9, in 1992. Louisville has won the previous two meetings, 30-20 in 2003, and 41-17 in the first BIG EAST contest between the squads last year.
In addition to the football game, two special activities will take place. The University will recognize the Syracuse Eight and everyone can get involved in the 24th annual Dome Donation Day.
The Syracuse Eight, a group of African-American football student-athletes who left the team during 1970 Spring practice and did not return for the 1970 season because they felt there was racial discrimination in the program, will be recognized this weekend by Syracuse University Chancellor Dr. Nancy Cantor and the University community for their act of courage for standing up for what they believed. The group, dubbed the ‘Syracuse Eight’ by the media because the press was not aware of an injured student-athlete who was also involved, will receive the Chancellor’s Medal for Courage on Friday, Oct. 20 at a public ceremony at the Whitman School of Management at 5:30 p.m. and will be honored at halftime of the football game. The group includes Greg Allen, Richard Bulls, John Godbolt, Dana Harrell, John Lobon, Alif Muhammed, Clarence McGill, Duane Walker and Ron Womack.
It is the 24th annual Dome Donation Day to benefit the Salvation Army holiday donation program. All fans are encouraged to bring non-perishible food items and drop them in bins around the Dome prior to the game. The food items will help feed more than 2,500 needy families during the holiday season. Dome Donation Day is a Syracuse tradition and the area’s largest single-day canned food drive. Volunteers from various community groups, including Syracuse University, will man the drop-off sites around the Carrier Dome.
