ITHACA, N.Y. – The Syracuse University field hockey team travels to Cornell on Tuesday, October 24 at 7 p.m. The Orange is looking to end its two-game losing streak by defeating the Big Red.
In its most recent game against No. 9 Connecticut on October 21, the Orange was defeated in a 3-0 shutout. Despite the loss, sophomore goalkeeper Heather Hess (Lititz, Pa.) had a career-high 17 saves.
With just one victory in their last eight games, the Big Red (5-7) is coming off of a 1-0 shutout defeat against Ivy-League rival, Brown.
SERIES WITH CORNELL
This is the 25th meeting between Syracuse and Cornell. The Orange holds a 22-1-1 advantage in the all-time series. Syracuse defeated Cornell last season 1-0.
SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red is led in scoring by sophomore Brenna Gulotta’s three goals and seven points. Senior Sarah Miller leads the team with four assists. Junior goalkeeper Lizzie Goldblatt currently holds a 2.19 goals-against-average and a .652 saves percentage in eight games, while fellow goalkeeper, sophomore Shannon Prescott, holds a 1.30 goals-against-average and a .846 saves percentage in six games.
RECAP
The Syracuse University field hockey team went 0-1 last week after being shutout, 3-0, by No. 9 Connecticut on October 21.
STONE WALL
Sophomore goalkeeper Heather Hess (Lititz, Pa.) recorded a career-high 17 saves at No. 9 Connecticut.
ELIMINATED
The Orange’s loss at No. 9 Connecticut on October 21 eliminated SU from postseason contention. It is the first time since 2003 that the Orange did not qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament.
SHUTOUT
Syracuse has been shutout in each of its last three loses. SU lost 1-0 at No. 16 Villanova, 2-0 to No. 14 Providence and 3-0 at No. 9 Connecticut.
ORANGE LEADERS
Sophomore forward Alison Babbitt (Spencer, N.Y.) has recorded a team-best 21 points and 10 goals. Senior back Jess Wreski (Middletown, Pa.) has dished out a team-high seven assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Heather Hess (Lititz, Pa.) has seen the majority of action in the cage for the Orange and has recorded a 1.99 goals-against-average and a .702 saves percentage.
