PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Syracuse men’s soccer freshman Hansen Woodruff (Stuart, Fla.) was selected as the BIG EAST’s Rookie of the Week on Monday, Oct. 9. Woodruff netted the game-winning goal at Villanova on Oct. 7 to give the Orange its first conference victory of the 2006 season.
Woodruff scored in the 29th minute with a low blast to the left side of the Villanova net. It was his team-leading second game-winner of the year and his fourth goal of the season. Woodruff ranks second on the team in both points (10) and goals. His 10 points are the most for an SU freshman since 2001 when Jarrett Park registered 24 points in his first campaign.
Woodruff is the first player to claim an individual weekly award from the conference this season.
Syracuse wraps up the non-conference portion of its 2006 schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when it hosts Hartwick at 7:00 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
