Syracuse Third in Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Top 25

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Syracuse Orange is ranked third in the Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Top 25 rankings released on Wednesday, Nov. 28. The Orange finished with a 10-5 record in 2006 and advanced to the national semifinals for the 24th time in school history.

Defending national champion Virginia claimed the top spot in the poll followed by Johns Hopkins and Syracuse. Princeton and Georgetown rounded out the top five.

The Orange will take on Virginia in the second game of the inaugural Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Classic on March 3 at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. The event features the top four programs in the preseason rankings with Princeton and Johns Hopkins making up the first game of the twin bill.

Syracuse returns six starters from last year’s team including All-Americans Mike Leveille, Steve Panarelli and Pat Perritt. Leveille is team’s top returning scorer (52 points in 2006) and Panarelli is SU’s most experienced defensive player with 45 games played under his belt, including 28 starts.

Orange head coach John Desko enters his ninth season at the helm of the program. Desko is 97-30 with three national championships in his first eight years.

Syracuse begins its 2007 slate on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 1:00 p.m. versus Hobart at the Carrier Dome.
