Asante Named to NSCAA All-Northeast Region Team

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Orange senior Richard Asante (North York, Ontario) was picked to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region Second Team on Wednesday, Nov. 29. It is the first time in his career he has been recognized regionally. Earlier this month, Asante earned 2006 All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention laurels.
Asante is the eighth Orange player this decade to be selected to an all-region team, joining Chris Aloisi, John Andrade, Kevin Bacher, Guido Cristofori, Kirk Johnson, Jarrett Park and Ezra Prendergast.
Asante played 63 matches during his four-year career. A 2006 captain, Asante started SU’s last 35 games, including all 16 contests in 2006. He equaled his career highs in points (5), goals (2) and assists (1) from his defensive midfield spot this year. Asante notched 14 career points and totaled five goals in his SU tenure.
Fellow BIG EAST member Connecticut led the way for four selections all-region selections. Vermont, New Hampshire, West Virginia and Harvard each had three.
The Orange finished the 2006 season with a 7-8-1 overall record.
