Lentini Inducted Into High School Hall of Fame

Junior Lindsay Lentini, who is a member of the Syracuse women’s rowing team, and who helped lead Saratoga Springs High School to a national championship, was recently inducted into her high school’s Hall of Fame.

Lentini was honored on November 22, 2006 in front of more than 300 people. She helped lead her junior women’s eight boat in 2003 to the national championship title in. Lentini returned to her high school and was one of many individuals honored at the ceremony.

“It was pretty cool actually,” Lentini said. “There were athletes being honored from the 60’s and the 70’s and from all different sports.”

Lentini’s rowing career began in seventh grade after her older brother’s coach recommended that she give the sport a try.

“His coach told me to try it,” Lentini said. “I was a dancer, I did tap and all that stuff, but I tried it and I loved it.”

Before long, Lentini gave up dance all together and focused all of her time with rowing, and with rowing came a lot of “firsts.” In seventh grade, her boat won the state title her first year with the team. This marked her first championship and the first state championship Saratoga had ever won, but certainly not the last. Lentini’s helped lead the team to four state championships following her initial success which was capped by the national championship in 2003.

Lentini is in her third season with the Orange women’s rowing team. After a successful freshman campaign during the 2004-05 season, Lentini rowed with the varsity eight last season, helping lead Syracuse to a third-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship.

Lentini and the women’s rowing team concluded its fall season in early November and is preparing for its annual winter trip. This year the Orange will be traveling to Melbourne, Florida from Jan. 4-14 for its winter training session.
