SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse forward Nicole Michael picked up BIG EAST Freshman of the Week accolades for the second-consecutive week. Michael helped lead the Orange to the 15th annual Brown Classic Championship and averaged 17.3 points and 9.0 rebounds as the Orange won all three of its games last week.
Michael led the Orange with 16 points in SU’s victory against Colgate on Tuesday, becoming the first freshman since Julie McBride during the 2000-01 season to lead the Orange in scoring for four-straight games. Michael then led the Orange to victories against Rhode Island and UC Davis and was named the Brown Classic Most Valuable Player. She scored 18 points against Rhode Island and followed that with an 18-point, 14-rebound performance against UC Davis in the championship game. Michael also recorded a personal-best six assists against the Aggies.
Michael ranks eighth in the BIG EAST with 17.5 points per game and seventh with 8.6 rebounds per game. Both numbers rank second among freshmen in the conference. Michael is the fourth SU player to earn rookie of the week accolades in consecutive weeks, joining Felisha Legette (194-85), Angel Lewis (1991-92) and Lauren Kohn (2003-04).
Michael and the Orange resume action on Thursday, December 7, opening BIG EAST play at St. John’s. The game is set to tip off at 7 p.m.
