Piscataway, N.J.- Graduate student Alida DiPlacido (Montreal, Quebec) continued her standout first season with the Orange as she won both boards at the Rutgers Diving Invitational, held over the weekend of December 1. DiPlacido broke her own school record in the three-meter. Rutgers is also the host of the Diving Zone A meet in March.
DiPlacido surpassed the record-breaking three-meter score she posted two weeks earlier at the Nike Cup with a score of 333.80 in the preliminaries. In the finals, her score of 317.90 was nearly 50 points better than Princeton’s Katie Giarra, who placed second. DiPlacido was equally dominant in the one-meter event, posting a score of 284.45 to best the competition by nearly 40 points. DiPlacido now has eight first place finishes and two second places in the 10 Syracuse diving events this season.
Junior Tory McKenna (Westford, Mass.) also had a strong performance in the three-meter. McKenna placed 16th in the preliminaries with a score of 207.00, which qualified her for the consolation round. McKenna then scored a 242.20 in the consolation round to claim the top spot. In the one-meter, McKenna came in 19th place with a score of 207.10.
Senior Jeremy Thornton (Manchester, Conn.) and junior Patrick White (Poulsbo, Wash.) represented Syracuse in the men’s competition. White had the best finishes for the Orange, placing 19th in the three-meter (215.20) and 22nd in the one-meter (203.30). Thornton came in 25th in the three-meter (189.95) and 29th in the one-meter (166.40).
