SU Takes Three Events At Bucknell Winter Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Orange took home three events today, Feb. 11, at the Bucknell Winter Classic, including both 3000m events and the men’s pole vault. It was the last tune-up for the team before competing in the BIG EAST Championships in Akron, Ohio next weekend.
Sophomore Benjamin Torvik (Columbus, Ohio) ran to victory in the 3000m with a time of 8:53.64. Sophomore Meghan Rowcliffe (Churchville, N.Y.) and junior Katie Simon (West Seneca, N.Y.) finished with identical times in the women’s 3000m, tying for first by clocking in at 10:29.78. Sophomore Dominic Hunter (Chesapeake, Va.) won the pole vault by clearing 4.63m.
For the men, freshman Bernard Bush (Tacoma, Wash.) placed in the top five in three different events. In the 55m dash, he placed fifth with a time of 6.51. He also went on to finish fourth in the long jump with a mark of 6.77 and fourth in the triple jump with a score of 13.30m. Freshman Terry Marshall (St. Michael, Barbados) finished third in the 200m (22.75), senior Tim Scarpinato (Croghan, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 5000m (15:41.88), and junior Brian Allen (Burlington, Vt.) finished fifth behind Bush in the triple jump (13.29).
On the women’s side, junior Kyra James (Danbury, Conn.) finished second in the weight throw at 15.35m and third in the shot put with a toss of 12.10m. Junior Candace Ince (Port of Spain, Trinidad) placed second in the 800m by clocking in at 2:21.24. Junior Amanda Hicks (Uxbridge, Mass.) finished fifth in the mile with a mark of 5:10.42, sophomore Keisha Townsend (San Jose, Calif.) placed fifth in the 55m hurdles at 8.41, and senior Alisha Ricardi (Newton, Mass.) finished fifth in the pole vault by clearing 3.05m
SU travels to Akron, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 18 to compete in the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. The event will take place at the Athletics Field House on the campus of the University of Akron.
