A native of Blue Anchor N.J., Alexis Switenko ranks on several of SU’s career lists after just three seasons. She began this year tied with former Orange star Tanya Rose for most career home runs (23). She is second in slugging percentage (.505), third in on-base percentage (.367), second in runs scored (76) and second in RBI (88).
In 2005, Switenko started all 50 games for the Orange and hit .317 (46-145). She belted five home runs and drove in 24 runs, helping SU to a team-record 28 victories and its first BIG EAST Tournament triumph (vs. Villanova). She capped her junior campaign by being named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Switenko attended Winslow Township High School in New Jersey and was selected as the Philadelphia Inquirer’s and Courier Post’s Player of the Year as a senior. She has one brother, Roman Jr., and is majoring in management.
More about Switenko …
Why she came to Syracuse University: “I loved the campus. I loved the program. I felt very comfortable with Coach Firnbach. The whole thing was just a great fit. I wouldn’t change anything about my experience here.”
What she would do with $1 million: “I would give most of it to my family. I would also donate some to Syracuse for an Alexis Switenko softball something. Maybe the field or the scoreboard could be named after me. I would also keep some for myself to go shopping. I would probably buy an SUV for driving around Syracuse in the winter.”
If she could go to dinner with any three people they would be: “Bette Midler. I love the way she sings and her movies. I’m a huge Bette Midler fan. I would also go to dinner with (SU field hockey coach) Kathleen Parker because she makes me laugh and she’s really fun. Brad Pitt would be the third person, but I don’t know if he would have much to contribute to the conversation.”
Three songs that are currently on her iPod: “Heart of a Champion” by Nelly. “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler and the theme song to the television show “Law & Order.”
Favorite movie: “A League of Their Own”
Favorite meal: “Enchiladas, rice and beans.”
Favorite saying: “Wherever you go, go with all your heart.”
