The Syracuse men's and women's track & field teams have competed at the BIG EAST Indoor Track & Field Championship six times on this date during the past 25 years. Cheree Hicks led the women's team to a fourth-place finish at the 2000 conference meet. Hicks won the shot put and set a new meet record with a throw of 53'11 1/4", surpassing the record she set a year earlier. Hicks earned indoor All-America honors in the shot put. During the outdoor season she won conference titles in the shot put and discus, winning the meet's Most Outstanding Field Peformer award, and earned All-America status in the discus and shot put.
In 1983, Dave Baker won the pole vault and Mike Morris won the 55-meter dash to help the men's team to a fourth-place finish. Ten years later, Bryan Delsite won the triple jump and long jump, while John Stephens won the shot put. The conference meet also took place in 1994. Kim Johnson had a spectacular meet, finishing first in the weight throw and shot put.
Sam Okantey won the triple jump and Adrian Woodley took home the 60-meter hurdle title at the 1999 conference championship. In addition to Hicks performance at the 2000 meet, Deneice Bell finished first in the 400-meters. One year ago Jenna Grimaldi won her second BIG EAST title in the high jump.
In addition to track & field action, the Dome has been the site of two SU men's basketball games. Tony Bruin scored 21 points to lead the Orange to a 98-81 victory against Seton Hall in 1982. In 1990, Derrick Coleman's 21 points helped Syracuse to a 105-69 win against Boston College.
More than 23.5 million people have passed through the revolving doors of the Carrier Dome since the building’s first public event on September 20, 1980. Throughout the 2005-06 SU athletics seasons the University will celebrate the first 25 years of the Loud House.
