Johnson Nets Career High in Regular -Season Home Finale

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syacuse University women’s basketball (9-17, 2-13) team lost to St. John’s, 72-53, in front of 812 fans at Manley Field House on Saturday, Feb. 25. Freshman guard Cintia Johnson tallied a career-high 12 points to lead the Orange. She also had three steals, two rebounds and one assist. St. John’s guard Tara Walker scored 19 points to lead the Red Storm (20-6, 10-5).
Prior to the game senior forward Jill Norton and senior manager Meghan Viens were recognized for their contributions to the program. Norton, who has played in 77 games, including 26 starts, scored four points, had one block and one steal in 16 minutes in her final home game.
St. John’s Greeba Barlow sparked the Red Storm scoring their first seven points, as they jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first seven minutes. Barlow finished the game with 12 points. The Red Storm led, 41-20, at the half.
In the second half, the St. John’s extended its lead to 31, 59-28, with 12:15 left in the game. Syracuse fought back, outscoring the Red Storm 25-13 in the final 12 minutes. Norton scored all four of her points during that run.
Syracuse guard Jenny Eckhart scored eight points for the Orange, increasing her season total to 259, which ranks 10th on Syracuse’s freshman scoring record list. She also had three rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Sophomore forward Vaida Sipaviciute scored 10 points, increasing her season total to 425, which is fourth on Syracuse’s sophomore scoring record chart. Junior forward Tracy Harbut eclipsed the 300-point scoring mark for the season, scoring four and increasing her season total to 301. She also had five assists and three rebounds.
Sophomore Amanda Adamson added seven points and five rebounds, while sophomore forward Sara Antolick had six points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals for the Orange.
Syracuse will close the 2005-06 season at DePaul on Tuesday, February 28. The game, which will be broadcast on ESPN Radio 1260AM, tips off at 8:00 EST.
